Life after Addiction.

with one comment

Recovering from a long-standing addiction can be rather difficult but not impossible. You may seem lost, unfit for social life, and even depressed. You may not know where to turn or how to start up a new life without your addiction. Its important to remember to steer away from things that could cause you to relapse, as we all know how easy it is to fall back into old habits and give into the overwhelming temptation. Many of us have all different types of recovery stories and here is one I came across recently that really moved me, so I decided to share it with you.

Many recovering addicts lose family members, loved ones and/or acquire thousands of dollars in debt in the long road of addiction and starting over can be pretty gloomy. As Heather stated in her video, there comes a time where you just want to learn to live your life differently. You have to want it deep within yourself, because its going to be a very dark and gloomy road that you have to take to get to that light, and picking up a flashlight (giving into temptation) may seem easier but it is not.

Seeing a counselor is a great way to get in touch with yourself again. Finding new fun activities and social events can aide in your self-discovery. Try picking up a good book or watching an old favorite movie that you haven’t watched in years. Look up old friends and make new ones. As gloomy as your world may seem after your addiction, it is up to YOU and you alone to make the needed changes to reach that light at the end of the path, the light of self-happiness.

  1. It is ok to make mistakes, we all do. The important thing is that you learn something from each mistake. The first step is always the hardest in anything you do and sometimes all it takes is a phone call, an email or text message. You can change your life it is a lot easier than you think.
