Starting Over and Stepping Towards the Future

with 2 comments

What do you do with yourself? – You’re having a hard time thinking about how to spend your time like a “normal” person. You have spent so many years doing self destructive things with your free time that you don’t have the first clue about some constructive pass times.

You have to think about the old saying that “Idle hands are the devil’s playground”…it’s a saying for a reason. You can get yourself into some trouble if you don’t have things set in place to keep you busy.streamside1

People with good intentions but who have never been addicts themselves have hard time empathizing with addicts, as most their experience and information is usually only based on books and studies. In time, you’ll feel more comfortable with addiction and recovery. You will feel the ability to take on new things which are not related to recovery and begin to develop important life-coping skills that will help you stay on the road to recovery.

Once you are well into your recovery, it is important to realize that the environment around you has, more than likely, changed because of your addiction. However, it is important to remember that your own life and respect for yourself is the most important thing of all.

Even if other relationships and aspects of your life have been disrupted because of your prior addiction, sobriety and the road to recovery is the right way to organize your life and get back on track.
